Exede satellite internet services began operations in 2012 and is owned by Viasat, Inc. Viasat is headquartered in Carlsbad, California, was founded in the mid 1980’s and has more than 2,700 employees. Revenues have now exceeded $1.1 billion. In 2011 Viasat, Inc. launched Viasat I, the fastest and highest capacity satellite to date for internet services. Viasat is publicly traded under the symbol VSAT.
Currently Exede offers the industry’s fastest download (12Mbps) and upload speeds (3 Mbps) across their various satellite Internet programs. Exede has a further advantage with respect to the overnight bandwidth allowance. Most satellite Internet services advertise their monthly bandwith allowances as a gross bandwidth that includes both daytime and overnight capacity, 10GB for example. However, under these plans only half of that allowance is available during regular usage hours, with the other half available during overnight hours, typically 2:00am to 8:00am. Exede’s programs include unlimited bandwidth during the overnight hours of 12:00am to 5:00am. A recent study conducted by the FCC showed that Exede reached or surpassed their advertised speeds more often than other satellite internet providers.
If you use more than your allotted bandwidth capacity, your speeds will slow down significantly. Although, this restriction does not apply to Late Nite Free Zone hours. You may also purchase additional capacity at the rate of $9.99 per GB of data.
